GRADUATE FELLOWSHIPS IN ENGINEERING

Eight $30,000 graduate fellowships plus full tuition are available to qualified graduate students in the Mechanical, Electrical & Computer, and Biological Engineering Departments, and in Computer Science, under an NSF sponsored GK-12 Fellows program. The graduate students benefit by experience and training in teaching and mentoring skills, and in improving their overall marketability.

Responsibilities : This renewable 1-year position begins July or August, 2007. The Fellowship responsibilities include:

  • Participate in a 4-day Teachers/Fellows Summer Institute (July or Aug 07)
  • Work with teachers outside of class (5 hrs/week year long) to plan instruction using design activities; work with teachers in classrooms (10 hrs/week year long) to demonstrate engineering design projects; work with teachers to form Future Scientists and Engineers Clubs in G6-9 grades.
  • Participate in select teaching/leadership enrichment programs on campus.
  • Maintain the regular load and demonstrate progress toward assigned research.

Requirements :

  • B.S./M.S. in mechanical, electrical, computer or biological engineering, computer science, physics, or a related discipline.
  • US citizenship or permanent resident status.
  • Excellent scholastic record and a strong aptitude in math and science.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Formal admission as a graduate student to University of Missouri-Columbia.

The other items to be included in the packet are listed above. The statement of purpose should include the applicant's background and interest in GK-12 activities.
